Figure of the Day: Castle for Father Frost
Father Frost (Russian Santa Claus) to move from his small town house to a castle, Interfax reports citing governor of the Vologda region Oleg Kuvshinnikov.
A large palace of 350 million rubles worth will be built in Veliky Ustyug.
"The capacity of Grandfather Frost's town house is no more than 6-6,5 thousand people a day. There is need in a bigger space. For this purpose, 350 million rubles to be spent. We have filed an application to the Ministry of Culture, adjustment of the project’s documentation to be finished soon. We are going to build a new castle, the place for construction is already chosen, "the governor said.
Kuvshinnikov hopes that if the funds for the palace are allocated within the federal program for the development of tourism, construction of a new house for Father Frost will begin next year and to be finished in two years.
Now the house is a two-story wooden building with a throne room, an observatory, a guest room, fairy rooms, an armchair, a dressing room and a work room, where Father Frost reads all the letters he received.
In addition, the head of the region noted that 5.5 billion rubles have been invested in development of Veliky Ustyug during the past five years.
The Vologda regional cultural and educational center runs The Father Frost's House. The founder is the Department of Culture and Tourism of the region. The director of the Father Frost's House is Vera Vorobyova.
According to Contour-Focus database, the company owns eight houses. Father Frost’s house in Veliky Ustyug is located on 43 hectares of land, 7.5 hectares of which is occupied by the Father Frost’s Zoo, a branch of the Moscow Zoo.
State order for construction of the castle on the website of state purchases is not available yet.
