Figure of the Day: Corruption Damage
The Head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, reported to Rossiyskaya Gazeta on the results of fight against corruption on the eve of the professional day of an investigativon officer (July 25).
"During the period from 2011 to 2016, over 24 billion rubles of damage done by corruption crimes to the state was recovered, and over 40 billion rubles in the form of property of the accused was seized," Bastrykin said.
The Investigative Committee became an independent department on January 15, 2011. Before that, it was a part of the Prosecutor's Office.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, in 2016 the damage from corruption amounted to about 78 billion rubles. Prosecutor General Chaika reported that part of the damage was compensated: criminals voluntarily repaid damages on the total sum of 6.8 billion rubles, law enforcement agencies seized property and cash assets on the sum of 10 billion rubles.
